As the college bowl season approaches, it suddenly brings to mind a recent visit to South Bend, Ind., for the annual USC/Notre Dame football classic. As I got off the train at the South Bend train station and took an Uber, I became very excited to visit the campus. While I am a life-long Trojans fan and hate Notre Dame with all my being, at the same time, I do have the upmost respect for their team and its great history.
Pulling into campus, I suddenly became speechless by the beautiful gold dome off in the distance, which looked like *od himself built it as a beacon. Later as I walked around campus, I did not see dorm buildings, but something more beautiful - buildings that looked like the exterior of a church.
As rain poured down onto the school, I took refuge in buildings across campus. One of these was the South Cafeteria, where I experienced various food stations. What struck me about the students was how polite and nice they were to the thousands of visitors to their campus, even to me when I opened my mouth for directions or some bit of history. Later after warming up by a fire in the quaint Morris Inn, I visited the famous Basilica and Grotto, where the beauty and significance to the campus stirred my emotions.

I have been to college campuses around the country, but at none did I feel more welcome and at home.
