A North Tonawanda man has been sentenced to seven years and three months in prison following his guilty plea to a charge of receipt of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced.
Michael Angstenberger, 48, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to receive 10 years of supervision following his release.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly, who prosecuted the case, Angstenberger used a Snapchat account with the user name "catybug1234" to pose as a girl and convince young girls to send him sexually explicit images of themselves.
One of the victims was a 12-year-old in Kentucky who sent him images in December 2021, investigators found. Another in Arkansas was approximately the same age.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
